RED SEA – THE MAGIC TRIANGLE
THE MAGIC TRIANGLE
Starting from Marsa Alam and sailing northward, you embark on an itinerary where the absolute protagonist is the current, offering thrilling dives considered among the most beautiful in the world.
7 days of underwater adventures tailored for experienced and demanding divers, to explore the Brothers Islands, Daedalus, Elphistone, and the wrecks of the Numidia and Aida II.
We first reach the Brothers Islands, two colossal limestone columns located in the middle of the Red Sea, 40 miles from the coast, rising from an abyss of over 300 meters.
The unique location of these “two brothers” limits the constant presence of boats, ensuring that divers can explore some of the most pristine depths of the Red Sea.
Jacks and barracuda, which swim in the mid-water column gracefully carried by the currents, gray reef sharks in open waters, hammerhead sharks, and occasionally oceanic whitetip sharks (longimanus) are just a few of the thrilling encounters you can experience in these waters.
The beauty of the seabed is not only due to the ease of observing these animals up close, but also to the richness of colors that characterize every small space of the reef, thanks to the exceptional concentration of soft corals, gorgonians, and black coral.
On the northern tip and western wall of the larger of the two islands, you will find two magnificent wrecks: the Aida II and the Numidia.
Both wrecks, resting on the wall in an almost vertical position, have become the perfect substrate for the growth of colorful soft corals. Here, thanks to the current that ensures continuous oxygenation, they find the ideal environment to thrive.
Gorgonians, anemones, and sponges complete the picture of a colorful scenery where clouds of anthias and photogenic Pterois volitans dance.
The journey continues towards Daedalus, a reef located at the upper end of a volcanic crater. In the center of the atoll, a small island with white sand has formed, and in the early 1900s, the English built a structure that has become the symbol of Daedalus: the majestic lighthouse, offering an extraordinary panorama, especially at sunset.
Many species have adopted this extraordinary habitat: colorful tropical fish coexisting with schools of pelagic fish such as barracuda, jacks, and reef sharks. But looking into the blue, it’s easy to spot a spectacle of great power and beauty: the unmistakable silhouette of hammerhead sharks.
Daedalus, like the Brothers Islands, is part of the Marine Park established by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in 1996, which also protects Zagarbad Island and Rocky Island.
The itinerary concludes with the exploration of Elphinstone, a long and narrow madreporic reef located twenty miles from Marsa Alam. Its long plateau is considered one of the most renowned dive sites in the entire Red Sea. Like all plateaus extending into the blue, the main characteristic of this site is encounters with pelagic species. However, adrenaline-pumping encounters are not lacking, such as those with hammerhead and gray reef sharks.
The “Shark Triangle” Marine Parks cruise undoubtedly offers some of the most fascinating and thrilling dives in the underwater world.
